First I'll admit, I haven't read the first book in this series, BUT you don't need to as far as I'm concerned because I didn't feel as though I was really missing anything other than another character's love story. 
I truly enjoyed this roller coaster romance. There is focus on suicide in some parts of the story, but I felt the story was more about overcoming and healing with finding that one person that makes you feel like you can do anything, than it was a darker topic. 
Braun & Levi are sexy & steamy with a touch of sexual tension that will have you pulling for both of them to get together yet feels so right. I fell in love with Emme, Braunwyn's Little Miss, almost as fast as she was mentioned. Levi's nicknames for his favorite girls are adorable, and imagining him interacting with a child makes you sigh and want to have his babies. 
The emotions in On The Rocks are so powerful that you can't help but feel them right along with Gillian's characters and never want it to end. 
I would definitely recommend this to my reader friends!
