Ladies,
I know how things
look from the outside. I’m rich. I’m a successful surgeon. I’m handsome. I
should have women lining up from here to New Jersey clawing for space in my
bed, but there’s one huge catch.
I’m f*cking
awkward.
Every time I get a
date, I spoil it. Asked if she’s pregnant? Check. Forgot her name? Check.
Bought a meat lover’s pizza for my vegan girlfriend? Check, check, check.
This is why my best
friend, romance fanatic Allie Jenkins, has declared that she’s swooping in to
save the day. She’s prepared a list of required reading straight from The
Ripped Bodice, and I’m supposed to take notes, learn from the best, and put
that shit into action. After all, practice makes perfect, right?
Wrong.
"Best-Friends-to-Lovers. That's my all time favorite troupe. I could read them all day and never get tired of them. There's something sexy about knowing a person your whole life and finally falling in love and getting together. It's even sexier when the guy friend is awkward af!! Jack Darcy has hotness and awkwardness in spades.
Jack and Allie have been friends their whole lives. They hang out all the time and share all of their secrets. Well, All but one. Jack is stupid in love with Allie. Because she doesn't know this, she helps him try to get rid of his awkward so he can successfully date and settle down. Only, the person he wants to settle down with is the one trying to marry him off.
I love Jack and Allie's relationship. Allie is the fun loving, caring, free-spirit. Jack is the by the book, read medical textbooks for fun doctor. They have their weekly dinner dates of MSG filled Chinese and car movies. When Jack gets an offer for a job interview down in Florida, he thinks he should probably take it. Get distance from Allie, because he knows that with her around and not with him, he can't be truly happy, because Allie has made it clear to him that she doesn't want more than friendship from him. So he needs to get some distance between them. But once he tells Allie all of this, the fear of losing him starts to get her wheels in motion. As much as she doesn't want to ruin their friendship, she can't stop the feelings from bobbing to the surface.
There was one thing that was annoying. Like how Allie thought it was okay to keep him from going to Florida by sending him all the ways he could die down there when they were friends, but when he says he doesn't want the job and he's going to turn it down, for her, after they spend the night together, she's all up in arms about it and tells him to go, and to give her space. It was dumb, But I guess I kind of understand. There's more risk as a couple. But bleh. lol.
Overall, this was a great book. I had a ton of laughs and swoon moments. The world needs more Awkward Dr. Darcy's."
